Azimuth Receives 2023 DBJ Woman-Owned Business of the Year Award

What a busy week! On Thursday evening, Azimuth walked home trophy in hand from the annual Dayton Business Journal Awards Gala, gaining recognition as DBJ’s 2023 Woman-Owned Business of the Year. The award will take residence in the Azimuth home office in Beavercreek, next to the same award from 2019.

The achievement bookends an accolade-laden week, with Azimuth receiving the 2023 HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion on Tuesday, a US Department of Labor award that recognizes businesses that actively hire and retain veteran talent. Azimuth has won the award every year since the award’s inception in 2018—and, rightfully so, given year-over-year veteran growth in the workforce and a current staff of over 30% veterans, many in leadership positions.

Both awards reflect Azimuth’s unprecedented growth—with annual revenue doubled to the tune of over $41 million of revenue for 2023—and a business strategy built upon supporting our nation’s warfighters and veterans.

During her DBJ award speech, Azimuth CEO and President Valerie Rossi first and foremost credited her team at Azimuth, saying, “This achievement would not have been possible without their unwavering commitment, hard work, and shared vision. They are the backbone of our company, and I am so fortunate to have such a passionate and talented group of individuals by my side.”

Rossi, who started Azimuth in 2001 with two part-time employees and one full-time employee—herself—has put in over two decades of work to acquire defense contracts with multiple national security organizations; grow in-house capabilities such as Azimuth’s Autonomy, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (AAIM) Lab; and expand the Azimuth family to 138 full-time employees. The upward trajectory is poised to continue in 2024, with plans for an expanded customer base and capabilities growth.

When speaking to aspiring women entrepreneurs in the Gala audience, Rossi said, “No dream is too big, no obstacle insurmountable, and no goal unattainable. Keep pushing forward, believe in yourself, and, most importantly, surround yourself with a supportive network that believes in your vision as much as you do.” Words to live—and succeed—by.
